Ladies, you provide great entertainment while I go through spreadsheets while working. However, I stopped working when I heard you discuss daycare costs. I have been fortunate to have my 2 children in a daycare from the day it opened. In that, I've convinced them to limit fund raisers by soliciting the parents to donate gently used toys and left-over craft supplies. Even though the owner said she is going to do a fund-raiser, she's giving the parents to purchase a "No Fund-Raising" card for $25 for 6 months, or $50 for one year. I think this is a great idea. I understand that these places want to provide quality care, and kids do get bored with the current toys and supplies.
On another note, as for all the solicitations you receive for schools, I suggest you make a line in your monthly budget for giving to outside organizations, sort of like how you determine how much you are going to give to your church. After determining your monthly charity amount, stick to it. If the kids/police department/ etc get to you after your budgeted amount, tell them you are done giving for the month and that they will have to try again. Also, never buy anything at work. This prevents favoritism and feeling the guilt to buy from everyone.
I love listening to your show. I wish your e-mail link worked for me. I can't use it for some reason.
